In year 2008, SCALAR system has once more detected a record number of flashes, that is 95.182. This year, lightning season started in June, reached its maximum in July and faded off with August. More tha 70 % of lightning strokes took place in July and August, which represents a typical distribution of flashes through year.

Our sensor network was expanded with two new sensors. One has been set up in Jelše near Krško and another one in Croatia in Velika by Požega. This network upgrade will improve efficiency and accuracy of SCALAR system's lightning localization and such the quality of all of our services.

We also developed new services. FlashStat web application for flash statistics overview has been released. The first publicly available version of mScalar application has been released. This application is aimed at broad variety of users for monitoring weather conditions (rainfall, lightning) on mobile phone. In rainy days users are already submitting radar image requests to our server. CompositeDisplay application has been upgraded with display of satellite cloud image over Europe, on which lightning stroke positions are marked.

New users have ordered SCALAR system services. Besides Slovenske železnice (Slovenian Railway Company) and insurance companies we distributed our services to individual users through mScalar application. Our system was presented on international meetings and we also organized European Lightning Detection Workshop (ELDW).
